“Swelter” Heats Things Up At Hotel Tides

A warming trend comes to Asbury Park this winter. “Swelter,” an exhibition of Despina Statelova’s mixed-media paintings will be shown in the lobby and lounge of Hotel Tides, 408 7th Ave., Dec. 16 – Feb. 5.

"Multifaceted" by Despina Statelova

The paintings, which incorporate collage with vibrant expressionistic paint, explore qualities of female experience: mixed media, mixed metaphors, mixed messages and masquerade. Juxtaposing fashion images against images of the natural world or cultural artifacts, the works in Swelter express sensuality mixed with a sense of wonder.

Statelova, a resident of Monmouth County, is a certified teacher of art, and works primarily with special needs students. She was an exhibiting member of the Shore Women’s Abstract Gallery (SWAG) in Asbury Park in 2009-2010. She has shown work in several juried shows in New Jersey, and is a member of the Art Alliance of Monmouth County (Red Bank) and the Belmar Arts Council.

The opening reception for Swelter will be held at The Hotel Tides from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served. Cash bar.

Call (732) 897-7744 or visit HotelTides.com for information and directions.
