December 28, 2013

HIGHLANDS – The American Littoral Society will hold at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1. its 35th annual New Year’s Day Beach Walk.

Society members and staff will begin the hike from its Sandy Hook headquarters at 18 Hartshorne Drive, Highlands. Once again, the society will try to make contact with members of its New York Chapter on the other side of the bay. The walk is followed by free lunch (hotdogs and hot cocoa) back at society headquarters.

The society started the walks to begin every year focused on the coastal environment. The leisurely, rain-or-shine walk takes about 1½ hours.

There is no charge for this event but the society asks participants to bring desserts to share.

Donations to support the society’s environmental programs are always appreciated.
