FREEHOLD — Janet Farese, a 55-year-old Brick resident, was sentenced on Friday in Superior Court to five years in state prison for embezzling more than $130,000 from a Monmouth County pharmaceutical company.

Along with her prison sentence, Judge Ronald Lee Reisner ordered Farese to pay $134,000 in the form of a civil judgment, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

In January Farese pleaded guilty to second-degree theft, admitting, while working as chief financial officer for Granard Pharmaceuticals Sales and Marketing, Manasquan, she embezzled company funds over the course of two years by manipulating the firm’s payroll information to the payroll company, according to authorities.
