Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden is accepting applications for enrollment in the 16th Annual Citizen Police Academy held at the Monmouth County Police Academy, Freehold.
Citizen Police Academy is a 12-hour block of instruction designed to give attendees an overview of law enforcement services in Monmouth County and features presentations by municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The course consists of six sessions from 7 to 9 p.m. on consecutive Tuesday evenings. The course is the prerequisite for becoming a member of the VISCOMP Volunteer Program.
Classes begin Oct. 16 with graduation on Nov. 27. Applications are available to Monmouth County residents, age 18 and older, who have no criminal record. The deadline for applying is Sept. 30. Enrollment is limited. There is no fee for the course.

The Ashley Lauren Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing hope and help to children throughout New Jersey who suffer from cancer through financial, material and emotional support, will be holding its 2012 Colts Neck Barn Tour Saturday, Sept. 29. The fundraiser is being held in observance of September’s National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Across the nation, thousands of courageous children fight pediatric cancer each year, facing life-threatening battles. The Ashley Lauren Foundation’s mission is to relieve the daily burdens thrust upon these children as they battle this disease. Through your participation, you will be making a difference in their lives.
This is a rare opportunity to visit some of Colts Neck’s exquisite farms and stables where champion hunter jumpers and thoroughbreds are raised and trained. There will be five farms on the tour including Wellspring Stables and Yellowbrook Farm/Helen Goddard LLC., Colts Neck Stables and Stillwell Stables.
Tickets are $30, are limited and must be purchased in advance. The tour will take ticket holders by bus to each location. Ticket holder sign-in begins at 11:30 a.m. with buses departing for the tour promptly at 12:30 p.m. from Colts Neck Municipal Complex, 124 Cedar Drive. The tour will end at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The public is invited to an apolitical educational event on the Mormon religion at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House, 1475 W. Front St., Lincroft.
Sponsored by the Monmouth Center for World Religions and Ethical Thought (MCWRET) this event will include two presentations.
The first presentation, What does it mean to be a Mormon in 21st Century America? will be offered by Gary Anderberg, PhD. He will share personal experiences and family stories of Mormon pioneers and early converts with roots reaching back to the days of Brigham Young.
The second talk, Mormonism 101, will be presented by Scott Johnson, life-long church member, lay leader and bishop of the Freehold Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His talk will focus on basic Mormon beliefs, doctrines of the church and interesting statistics of the church and its members. The audience also will get an inside look at how the church is organized and some of its significant activities.

The Red Bank Regional Educational Foundation (RBREF) presents its third annual A Day at the Races from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Monmouth Park, at 175 Oceanport Ave., Oceanport. The day will include horse racing, good friends and great food. The event takes place at the Monmouth Park Reserved Picnic Area.
Tickets are $50 per person, $25 for RBR faculty, staff and hall-of-famers, $10 for students and free for children, age 12 and younger. Each ticket provides admission, racing program and pen and a gourmet lunch. Light spirits and soft drinks are included.
The event will feature a 50-50 and sponsored RBREF race, after which, the 50/50 winner will have his or her picture taken in the winner’s circle.
NJ Windsurfing and Watersports Association (NJWWA) is holding its Fun Fest at Sandy Hook from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 23.
There will be a beginner introduction to windsurfing lesson; stand-up paddleboard lesson and fun races; novice windsurfing clinic and slalom races; a kayak fun race, and Rhizotomy Paddleboard demonstration available.
The event will be held at the Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook, Chokecherry Parking Lot C at Bayside Beach. The cost is $30 nonmembers and $15 NJWWA members. A picnic lunch and equipment is included.
Those participating must be age 18 and older or age 9 to 18 with a parent or guardian present. A properly fitted lifejacket is required.
