The Rev. Dan Lanahan, O.F.M. will host a three-day mission “Awakening Our Faith in Challenging Times” beginning Monday, March 11, at St. Catharine’s Church, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel.

Raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Lanahan joined the Holy Name Friars at age 20. He was educated in moral theology at the Catholic University of America and received his doctorate from the Alphonsian Institute in Rome.
For 20 years he helped form candidates for the priesthood at Christ the King Seminary and during that time conducted many retreats.
In 1986 Lanahan joined Franciscan Ministry of the Word parish renewal team, and has conducted numerous retreats and parish missions.
He is the author of When God Says No – The Mystery of Suffering and the Dynamics of Prayer.
The Festive Flutes will be performing Suites for the Sweet at Little Silver Public Library, 484 Prospect Ave., at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21.
The Festive Flutes, under the direction of Marjorie Koharski, feature programs of light classical music, show tunes and old favorites.
The public is invited to listen to a program of suites from the classical period to contemporary music by Haydn, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Bizet, Mancini and more.

SCAN Life Long Learning Center is holding a gift auction from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Regal Pointe Independent Living. 1800 Route 35. The event will benefit older adults who have been affected by Super Storm Sandy.
One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit SCAN. The $5 entrance fee will include refreshments. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Garden Club RFD of Middletown will be sponsoring “Happy Hydrangeas” a PowerPoint presentation by Bruce Crawford, director of Rutgers Gardens and hydrangea enthusiast, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Middletown Public Library, 55 New Monmouth Road. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
The Monmouth County Office on Aging will sponsor a workshop entitled “Caring for the Caregiver” from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Monmouth County Connection, 3544 State Highway 66.
The workshop is targeted to anyone caring for an elderly friend or loved one.
Presented by Monmouth County Caregiver Specialist Colleen Smith, the program will educate family caregivers about resources and support that are available to help them, tools and techniques to manage stress and more.
The workshop is free and open to all Monmouth County residents, but registration is required and can be completed by calling 732-303-2828.
The Monmouth County Connection is a new office of Monmouth County government offering a variety of services including passports, passport photos, free notary public, veterans’ IDs, election/voter information, senior and veterans’ services, public access computers and more.
The office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
Red Bank Parks and Recreation Department is co-sponsoring a co-ed an adult volleyball league set to begin March 12.
Games will be played at Red Bank Middle School on Tuesday nights. Those who wish to play can sign up with a team or as an individual. The league is open to Red Bank residents and nonresidents 21 and older.
All ability levels are welcome as the emphasis is on having fun and meeting new people.
The deadline to register is March 4.
