The Atlantic Highlands Arts Council presents Capturing the Moment: A Summer Photography Exhibition in the Arts Council’s new gallery space in the FineLines Building, 21 W. Lincoln Ave.
Photographers from across Monmouth County have submitted photographs for this juried exhibition. Selected images present a broad range of subjects and techniques, from landscape and portrait to experimental “light paintings” and more.
Capturing the Moment will be on view through Sept. 6. The gallery is open from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and by appointment.

The Middletown Arts Center (MAC) will host the Middletown Summer Concert Series from 7 to 9 p.m. every other Thursday beginning on July 11 through Aug. 22, at 36 Church St.
The free entertainment is presented annually by the Middletown Township Cultural and Arts Council and the Middletown Recreation Department. This year’s talented lineup of musical acts will perform a series of four family-friendly, outdoor concerts on the MAC’s Northern Lawn. There will be a musical style for everyone to enjoy from Beatles classics to New Orleans blues to early rock ‘n’ roll classics.
The public is invited to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments. Free parking is on-site. Club MAC with Miss Maria will provide activities for the kids including spin art and cotton candy making.

The lineup will begin with Special Request on July 11. The band has been performing for audiences all over the tristate area for more than a decade. The band was formed by veteran musicians L. Darnell Taylor (vocalist) and Frank Banafato (guitarist) after a chance meeting at a local music venue. Recognizing their mutual love of soul, R&B, and classic rock music, they joined musical forces and created a group to perform the greatest hits of the genres.
On July 25 the Beatles Tribute with Glen Burtnik, Bob Burger & Friends will perform. The concert will include a performance of early Beatles classics performed in an authentic “note for note” presentation that captures the sound and mood of the original recordings and live concerts. Burtnik, bassist and vocalist, is a singer, songwriter, entertainer and multi-instrumentalist best known as a former member of Styx. Burger, rhythm guitarist and vocalist, is a singer/songwriter who also has long performed Beatles and other tribute shows with Burtnik and Bobby Bandiera. John Merjave, lead guitarist and vocalist, has played the George Harrison lead guitar role for 10 years in the Beatles tribute band Liverpool as the official house band for Fest for Beatles Fans annual shows in New York City and Chicago. Dave Anthony, drummer and vocalist, has replicated the Ringo Starr drumming style at many of the Burtnik Beatles tribute shows, and is widely known as a session player throughout the New York/New Jersey region.
The VooDUDES will perform Aug. 8. The band is a blend of New Orleans funk, blues, boogie-woogie, honky-tonk, Zydeco, Southern soul and Caribbean party music. It has been featured in numerous festivals, including The Red Bank Jazz and Blues Festival, Philadelphia’s Jambalaya Jam, New York’s Benson & Hedges Blues Festival and Ft. Lauderdale’s Crazy Crawfish Fest. The VooDUDES consist of Dave Ambrosy on vocals and drums; Gary Ambrosy on vocals and guitar; Andy B! on vocals, harmonica, percussion and rubboard; Fred Saunders on bass and beads; and John Pittas on keyboard and accordion.
The final performance is on Aug. 22 with Rave On! The band features the music of Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison, playing hits like “That’ll Be The Day,” “Peggy Sue” and “Not Fade Away,” along with other early rock ‘n’ roll classics. The band consists of guitarist and lead vocalist Chris Roselle; bassist and background vocalist Pete Farley; and drummer and background vocalist Don Guinta.
The 2013 Holiday Express Golf Classic, presented by Ray Catena, will take place on Monday, July 22, at the Manasquan River Golf Club in Brielle.
The $425 cost includes greens fees, cart, forecaddie, lunch, cocktails, dinner and entertainment. There is also a ladies 9-hole option for $300. Non-golfers can still enjoy the cocktail hour and dinner for $75.

Holiday Express is a nonprofit organization, comprised of approximately 100 volunteer musicians and vocalists and more than 1,500 volunteer workers who deliver music, food, gifts, financial support and friendship to those with the greatest need for the gift of human kindness during the holiday season and throughout the year.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Red Bank Elks Lodge 233 and Stellar Theater Group, Inc., a 501(c) 3 organization, is holding a dinner and murder mystery show directed by Julia Ayala at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the lodge, 40 W. Front Street.
The event will include buffet dinner and an evening of murder and mayhem with the wacky crew of the Lust Boat.
Guests can expect laughter and fun the minute they get on board as they are greeted by Capt. Ivah Dinghy; Fiona Helmsworth, owner of the ship; and social director Monique Lewdinsky.

St. George’s-by-the-River Church will hold its annual three-day Canterbury Art Show in September.
Called a Tapestry of the Arts, the event is a premier local exhibition and sale of juried and non-juried artwork that will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20; from 10 a.m. to 6 p. m. Saturday, Sept. 21; and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.
A special Meet the Artist reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 20 and on Sept. 21 there will be a Tapestry of the Arts Reception from 7 to 9 p.m. The event will take place at St. George’s-by-the-River church, 7 Lincoln Ave.
More than 400 attendees enjoyed the first Canterbury Art Show in 2012 that featured more than 600 works by almost 70 artists.
“We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community,” Canterbury Art Show chairwoman Coni Lefferts said. “Last year’s event was a huge success, both in terms of attendees and receipts, which was so gratifying.”
All proceeds from the art show directly benefit St. George’s- by-the-River and its outreach grants to more than 30 local agencies serving the needy of Monmouth and Ocean counties, including Lunch Break, Family Promise, HABcore, 180 Turning Lives Around and more.
This year’s jury will include well-known local artists and gallery.

Tickets to the Sept. 20 Meet the Artist reception and the Sept. 21 Tapestry of the Arts reception are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Both receptions include wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres and dessert. The purchase of a reception ticket for either night provides the purchaser with free entry to the show every day.
