Visitors will be able to enjoy an afternoon filled with a wide variety of art and delicious foods from the local chefs from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, as several local restaurants and galleries on First Avenue present an afternoon of “Eats & Arts.”
Each restaurant will spotlight its chef and offer guests a taste of a favorite and popular menu item while featuring several local artists and live artist demonstrations. Local galleries also will be participating by offering food, beverages and a tour of its gallery.
The “Eats & Arts” Festival, sponsored by the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council, is intended to create a broad array of art experiences, nurture the development of diverse art forms, and encourage the expanding strength of cultural life in Atlantic Highlands, while providing community interaction.
Tickets, which are limited, are $40 and are available online at aharts.org, at The Painted Frame or at the Memphis Pig Out.
Participating restaurants and galleries are: AJ Dillon, Christine’s, Copper Canyon, Harborside, Hudson Café, Kunya Siam Thai, Memphis Pig Out, Second Story Art Gallery, Town & Surf Diner, and the new restaurant opening on First Avenue.
The New Jersey Blind Citizens Association (NJBCA) will be hosting its 9th annual gift auction from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, May 30, at VFW Post No. 2179, 1 Veterans Lane, Port Monmouth.
The event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the 104-year old organization. All proceeds enable NJBCA to continue its mission of providing year-round programs for participants who attend Camp Happiness, the main campus located in the Leonardo section of Middletown.
General admission is $20 and includes one sheet of tickets. Admission tickets must be purchased in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door.
No one under 18 will be admitted. Attendees are welcome to bring their own food, but no alcohol will be permitted.
Coffee, tea, water, soda and desserts will be provided at the tables. Boy Scout Troop 364 will be selling hot dogs and snacks as a fundraiser.
Doors will open for the blind and visually impaired at 5:30 p.m. and at 6 p.m. for general admission. Calling will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Dress for Success of Mercer County and All Saint’s Memorial Church in Navesink are cosponsoring a special free event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, for women who are job hunting.
Trained counselors and coaches from Dress for Success will
work with participants one-to-one in the parish house at 202 Navesink Ave. to develop skills in job hunting, resume preparation and interviewing. Then they will give each participant a professional business suit.

The Navesink Garden Club will award a $1,000 scholarship June 17 at the club’s annual luncheon at The Atrium, located at 40 Riverside Ave.
The winner of this year’s award is Ethan Sackett, who is graduating from High Technology High School in Lincroft. Sackett plans to attend Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken next year to obtain a degree in mechanical engineering.
He is a member of his school’s National Honor Society, Key Club, Academic Team, and is an Eagle Scout. He also plays alto saxophone in the marching band and jazz ensemble at his home school, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School. He also teaches Sunday School at the First Rumson Presbyterian Church.
Sackett has shown a love and appreciation for the art of gardening, which he has demonstrated through several community projects. In his free time, he enjoys helping his family in their garden, rock climbing, creating his own music, and rebuilding video game consoles.
The Navesink Garden Club has awarded scholarships for many years to high school and college students. The club has been able to do so thanks to the generosity of many members. In 2010 the family of Mary Cain generously donated funds in remembrance of Mary.
The club meets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at The Atrium in September, October, November, January, March, April and May.

Registration is now open for the 2014 Red Bank Summer Camp Program.
The camp is divided into three age groups: The Runts for those ages 3 to 5; The Rascals for youngsters 6 to 11 years old; and The Rumblers for those ages 12 to 16 years.
The camp is a morning program and will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Affordable Housing Alliance (AHA) will hold a community meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Thursday, May 29, for Bayshore-area residents impacted by Super Storm Sandy at Memorial School, 221 Morningside Ave.
The alliance, a nonprofit leader in affordable housing development, will announce the opening of its new Housing Recovery Resource Center and debut plans for new replacement housing for Bayshore-area homeowners whose homes were destroyed or demolished as a result of the storm.
New elevated home designs and a new program to help homeowners rebuild on their existing property will be discussed. Housing counselors will also be on site to meet with homeowners.
