FAIR HAVEN – TweedleDee has opened its doors at 810 River Road. The shop, specializing in antiques and such, is the brainchild of Laura Kent, former designer and longtime antiques collector.

Kent has done her best to preserve and enhance the original interior architecture and details of the post-revolutionary building. Two brick fireplaces, beamed ceilings and wide-planked floors add to the cosy charm of the rooms.

From the plaid chairs at fireside to the tiny sewing closet, TweedleDee has something for every pocket and every interest. The seven rooms are chock-full of treasures and each room has its own personality and purpose.

The Fireplace Room, warmly decorated with country furnishings and accessories, has small surprises tucked into every corner. The Porch, with its pale periwinkle walls, is for those who love cottage chic, linens, porcelains and crystal. Wander through the sparkling Jewel Box and the tiny retro-kitchen and into the library.

The library is replete with antique and vintage books, African sculpture, Middle Eastern textiles, watercolors, paintings and ephemera. The Sewing Closet, tucked into the corner of the library, is chockfull of tools and supplies, vintage fabrics, buttons and patterns for those who love textiles and the sewing arts.

The last room in the back of the early 1800s cottage is Muddy-Puddles. It’s a “just for fun” room that Kent says is for the community to gather and share ideas, take a class or two – or teach one – and to host a meeting or give a lecture. Bridge clubs, book clubs, language clubs, all are welcome. Artists and artisans are encouraged to fill the space with one-man/one-woman shows.

Already planned are appraisal afternoons, antiques and tea, origami, sewing and painting classes. Other ideas and suggestions are welcomed.
