Library Director Honored for Preservation Work

 

Frederic C. Pachman, AHIP, director of the Altschul Medical Library at Monmouth Medical Center, received the 2013 Susan G. Swartzburg Preservation Award from the New Jersey Library Association during its annual conference.

The Swartzburg Award “recognizes a New Jersey Library Association member who, over a substantial number of years, has made exceptional contributions to the awareness, understanding, and/or preservation of archival and library materials in New Jersey. The Award honors the memory of the Rutgers Preservation Librarian whose leadership in New Jersey inspired and influenced many others in our profession, particularly in the areas of preservation and book arts.”

In remarks by Elsalyn Palmisano, the inaugural recipient of the Swarzburg Award in 2003, she chronicled Pachman’s involvement in statewide and local preservation activities; serving as an officer in the NJLA History and Preservation Section, as a member of the New Jersey State Library – Preservation Study Advisory Committee, and active in the Medical Library Association. The comments also reviewed his contributions to the commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Monmouth Medical Center, work with the Caucus Archival Projects Evaluation Service sponsored by the New Jersey Caucus of the MidAtlantic Regional Archives Conference, membership in local historical associations, and his role as founder of the New Jersey Scout Museum.

Pachman addressed the audience, celebrating the role of librarians who “promote services that showcase history,” urged attendees to recognize preservation of history and archives as a “core function and service that we provide our patrons,” and reminded us all that “it is vital for libraries to ‘do history.’ ”

 

Bott to Co-Author ‘Get With The Program’

 

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – Brian Bott, competitive power lifter, bodybuilder, and strength athlete, has joined a select group of leading fitness experts from across the United States and Canada to co-write the book titled, Get With The Program: The World’s Leading Fitness Experts Reveal Their Best Workouts to Help You Get Lean, Happy and Healthy in No Time Flat!

Nick Nanton and JW Dicks recently signed a publishing deal with each of the authors to contribute their expertise to the book, which will be released under their CelebrityPress imprint.

Bott is a 2003 graduate of Rutgers University and earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology with high honors. Bott has helped clients over the last 10 years realize their full potential in achieving their health and fitness goals. Constantly refining and improving his techniques in all aspects of training, coaching, nutrition and personal assessment has brought Bott to the program he now utilizes at Shore Results, located in Atlantic Highlands.

The royalties from the project will be given to Entrepreneur’s International Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating unique launch campaigns to raise money and awareness for charitable causes. The book is scheduled for a September release.

 

United Teletech Awards Scholarships to High School Seniors

 

HOLMDEL – United Teletech Financial Federal Credit Union (UTF) awarded its annual scholarship on June 25 to Michelle Jin of Middletown South High School.

Jin received $500 to put toward her tuition at Cornell University this coming fall.

UTF joined with the New Jersey Credit Union League’s Youth Involvement Board (YIB) Scholarship Program for the 2012-2013 academic year to offer its members a chance to win scholarship money toward continuing education. The YIB received more than 300 applications from 27 credit unions throughout New Jersey.

The YIB uses a scoring rubric to score applications; each applicant receives a score between 0 and 100. Though no one from UTF was chosen as a YIB winner, UTF took the two highest scoring members and awarded them $500 each.

“We are very proud of the achievements of the students representing United Teletech Financial in this year’s scholarship program,” said Bryan Eichenbaum, UTF’s vice president of sales and lending. “We look forward to continuing to support the NJCUL in offering this scholarship to aspiring college candidates.”

Jin, a Middletown resident, and another UTF member from East Brunswick were chosen out of 17 members from UTF who applied for this scholarship.

 

RFHB Elects New Officers

 

RUMSON – Rumson Fair Haven Bank & Trust (RFHB) has announced the election of James G. Aaron as chairman of the board. The promotion was effective June 25.

“Mr. Aaron brings a wealth of experience to our bank as a prominent, local attorney,” said Stephen Tyler, interim chairman of the board. “Mr. Aaron’s broad knowledge of banking and prior service on community bank boards and committees, for many years, make him a valuable addition to the organization.”

Tyler, one of the original stockholders and directors of the bank, and first president and chief executive officer, will continue to serve on the board. “On behalf of the board and management team, we thank Mr. Tyler for his service as interim chairman while the board completed the succession process,” Aaron said. “We look forward to Mr. Tyler’s continued guidance, service and valuable contribution to the board and our organization.”

The bank also announced the appointment of Joseph Castelluci as president and chief executive officer of the bank, effective July 1. Castelluci has served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary since January 2011, and will continue in his roles as general counsel and corporate secretary. Castelluci has been a director of the bank since 2006 and will remain on the board.

“I am truly honored to have been appointed by the board of directors to serve as president and chief executive officer,” Castelluci said. “I look forward to continuing to build on the progress we have made in enhancing value to our shareholders, customers and community. I am extremely excited about the future of our bank. We have an excellent board and management team in place. We are passionate about caring for our customers and monetizing the value of our franchise for the benefit of our shareholders.”

Castelluci will succeed F. James Hutchinson as president and chief executive officer. Hutchinson will remain on the board.

Chairman Aaron, on behalf of the board and management team, “wishes to thank Mr. Hutchinson for coming out of retirement to help the bank refine and execute its strategy. Mr. Hutchinson is a valued contributor to the board and the organization, and the bank looks forward to his continued involvement.”

 

VNA Announces New Chief Financial Officer

RED BANK – Visiting Nurse Association Health Group (VNA) has announced that Peter Gaylord has been selected as the organization’s new chief financial officer.

Gaylord, who assumed the new post on June 12, brings more than 20 years of financial and strategic leadership to the organization. He previously served as the treasurer and senior vice president for Medco Health Solutions where he gained national and international experience in the financial and health-care industry. Prior to his work with Medco, Gaylord held leadership positions with Merck & Co. and remained an important leader during and after that company’s successful spinoff, Medco Health Solutions, in 2001.

In his previous positions Gaylord was known for critically and objectively evaluating projects, responding to diverse organizational needs and working across complex organizations to achieve goals. These attributes will make him an asset to VNA Health Group.

Gaylord is also a key civic leader and currently is serving as the chair/president of the board for The Center in Asbury Park. The center is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization that provides support services for people living with HIV/AIDS as well as providing support for their caregivers.

Gaylord was awarded a Master in Business Administration in finance from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester and holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
