Business Associations Band Together to Help Union Beach Residents
COLTS NECK – The Colts Neck Business Association partnered with the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce and the Eatontown Industrial Park Association for a Cultivating Connections Networking event at the pavilion at Pebble Creek Golf Course to help residents of Union Beach.
Proceeds from the July 16 event went to benefit Operation Provide Comfort Union Beach that provides resources for residents of the borough devastated by Super Storm Sandy.
“We are excited to be able to share the success of one of our events in the form of funds that will benefit the people hard hit by the storms last year,” said Anna Appolonia, vice president of the CNBA.
Starbucks Collecting School Supplies for Big Brothers, Sisters
Area Starbucks are teaming up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth & Middlesex Counties (BBBSMMC) for its 13th annual school supply drive.
For many kids, back-to-school season is an exciting time filled with shopping for new clothing, notebooks, backpacks and more. Unfortunately, many families don’t have the funds to buy new clothes or school supplies.
To help local children brighten up their back to school experience and have the supplies they need, the school supply drive collects donations of new backpacks and supplies from residents of Monmouth and Middlesex counties, businesses and other organizations. Generously filled backpacks are then given to children in need.
Donations of backpacks and supplies will be accepted through Aug. 15 at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth & Middlesex Counties on the second floor of 305 Bond St., Asbury Park.
New school supplies (no backpacks), such as pens, pencils, markers, glue sticks, erasers, crayons, colored pencils, folders, binders, calculators, protractors and anything else needed for school, can be dropped off at these area Starbucks stores during regular business hours:
• Middletown, 2013 Route 35
• Red Bank, 4-6 White St.
• Shrewsbury, The Grove, 551 Route 35
“Our mentoring programs help instill the importance of education in our Little Brothers and Sisters. Thanks to support from the community, last year’s event made it possible for 150 local children to have the supplies they needed to begin school,” said William Salcedo, executive director of BBBSMMC.
The vision of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth & Middlesex Counties is that all children achieve success in life. BBBSMMC is a donor-supported, volunteer agency that is currently serving over 500 children by providing one-to-one mentoring and the agency is funded through individual gifts, grants and special events.
