FREEHOLD – Monmouth County is gearing up for its second “Made in Monmouth” event to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Monmouth University in West Long Branch.

“This event gives our talented and creative residents the opportunity to show off their merchandise that is made right here in Monmouth County,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone. “With such a wide variety of vendors, offering everything from biscotti for dogs to custom cabinetry and fine jewelry, ‘Made in Monmouth’ is the perfect place to spend the day and shop locally.”

Confirmed vendors for “Made in Monmouth” include Bruce Perlmutter, who makes bowls and platters from fallen trees; CLA Woodworking LLC, which makes handmade furniture and custom cabinetry; Confections of a Rockstar, which was featured on Food Network last summer; Nan’s Naturals, offering handmade lotions, sugar scrubs and healing oils; and Matawan Stained Glass, which makes custom-made stained-glass windows and lamps.

“Vendor applications are still being accepted and anyone interested in being part of ‘Made in Monmouth’ should apply immediately; any remaining spots will go quickly,” Arnone said. “Whether you are interested in buying, selling or just taking a look, ‘Made in Monmouth’ should not be missed.”

Monmouth U. Business Professor Wins Award

WEST LONG BRANCH – Monmouth University Leon Hess Business School Professor Stuart Rosenberg was presented with a 2013 Award for Excellence by the Emerald Literati Network for the article “Basic Employability Skills: A Triangular Design Approach” that was published in the Emerald journal Education + Training.

Rosenberg was the lead author for the paper, which examined the attitudes of graduates, faculty, and human resource managers regarding the basic employability skills that are required for job performance. Unlike previous studies that focused primarily on the attitudes of human resource managers, the novelty of the study was that it also surveyed recent college graduates and college faculty to determine whether critical gaps exist in attitudes.

The paper was named the Outstanding Paper Award winner over the more than 50 articles that were published in Education + Training in the last year. Rosenberg was chosen as the award winner by the editor and an editorial team consisting of eminent academics and practitioners.

Rosenberg was presented the award by Emerald Publisher Tom Dark during a meeting of the American Sociological Association in New York City.
