Lowy, no stranger to real estate or business, worked with G&G Realtors in Deal for 29 years and a large company during the same time frame. Most recently, he and his son have spearheaded Move for Hunger, a nonprofit organization that picks up nonperishable food from homes and brings them to others in need. The Atrium at Navesink Harbor Names New Executive Director
RED BANK – The Atrium at Navesink Harbor, a senior-living community, has welcomed Michael D. Gentile as executive director.
Gentile’s responsibilities include overseeing The Atrium’s daily operations as well as services provided to residents in 140 one- and two-bedroom luxury apartments and 43 health care suites.
Gentile comes to The Atrium with more than 30 years of senior-living industry experience. He served most recently as administrator of Care One King James in Middletown.
An Eatontown resident, Gentile is a licensed nursing home administrator and holds a B.S. from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Volunteer Day Organized by Purr’n Pooch Foundation
TINTON FALLS – Purr’n Pooch Pet Resorts, located in Wall Township and Tinton Falls, collected hundreds of donations from Dec. 10 through Jan. 18 for U.S. Military Working Dog Teams in the Middle East.
Donated items were collected for Operation Military Care K-9, a project run by the United States War Dogs Association. Items included canine products, food and snacks for the handlers, entertainment and toiletries.
More than 40 volunteers, including Cub Scouts Den 7, Troop 124 from Tinton Falls, representatives from the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce and the general public joined the Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals on Saturday, Jan. 18, to write letters to dog handlers and technicians and prepare more than 50 care packages for shipment to Afghanistan.
The day was organized in conjunction with the United States War Dogs Association, a nonprofit organization of former and current U.S. military dog handlers and supporting members committed to promoting the long history of the military service dogs, establishing permanent war dog memorials and educating the public about the invaluable service of these canines to our country.
Dedicated on June 10, 2006, the organization installed the U.S. War Dogs Memorial, located at the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial on the grounds of the PNC Bank Arts Center.
“We were thrilled with the immediate and generous community response the collection drive spurred,” said Dick Palazzo, president & CEO, Purr’n Pooch Pet Resorts. “Despite advances in technology, we are still reliant on the specialized work of our K9 military and police teams. I have the utmost respect for these dogs’ devotion to their handlers and the incredible lengths both man and dog will go to protect us. It’s a cause severely underfunded and Purr’n Pooch will continue to support local and national K9 service-dog units through in-kind donations and fundraisers.”
Hair Cuttery Salon to Provide Free Haircuts for the Homeless
MIDDLETOWN – For every adult or child who visits the Middletown Hair Cuttery salon, 455 Route 35, to purchase a haircut on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 4-5, a free haircut certificate will be donated to a homeless person in the community through local organizations such as the United Way and Salvation Army.
Hair Cuttery salons nationwide have participated in the annual August Share-A-Haircut program, where for every child’s haircut purchased, one is donated to a disadvantaged child in the community, just in time for back to school. Hair Cuttery is now adding another way to give with Share-A-Haircut for the homeless.
“Through our Share-A-Haircut program, more than 725,000 free haircut certificates have been donated to children in need over the years,” said Dennis Ratner, founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery. “We’re evolving this program so adults in the community who are in need of a fresh look for a job interview or simply for added self-confidence as they get back on their feet can benefit as well.”
In partnership with government and nonprofit social service organizations near each salon location, vouchers are distributed to adults to obtain a free haircut this winter. Last year, 100,000 free haircut certificates were donated through Share-A-Haircut at nearly 900 Hair Cuttery salon locations nationwide, a result of excellent participation from Hair Cuttery communities.

Chamber to Host Chocolate, Cheese and Wine Event
ALLENHURST –The Greater Ocean Township Chambers of Commerce (GOTCC) will be hosting its 4th annual Wine, Chocolate & Cheese Tasting Benefit & New Member Drive at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Shore Antique Center, 413 Allen Ave.
The event is a benefit that supports GOTCC and Community Hope Fund, a registered charity that supports families in need and programs for teenagers in Ocean and the surrounding area.
The event will once again be sponsored by Wegmans of Ocean, the Today Paper and GOTCC corporate sponsors, Monmouth Medical Center/Barnabas Health and Seaview Orthopaedic & Medical Associates.
“This event has grown every year, leading to our larger venue, and is a wonderful evening for socializing, networking and supporting a good cause,” GOTCC Executive Director Kim Horn Blanda said.
This year’s event has been supersized with several new elements and vendors added to those who participated last year.
“Last year the event was moved to the spacious and wonderfully nostalgic Shore Antique Center where at every turn there is a conversation starter. The size of the center allows a unique flow of movement for a sampling event,” Blanda said.
The chamber offers a one-night discount of 25 percent off 2014 membership fee for any individual/business who has never been a member. Admission to the event is free for those who join at the door.
The cost of the event is $15 per person.

Richard Presser Joins Curchin Group
RED BANK – The Curchin Group, LLC, a midsized, full-service accounting firm, has welcomed as of Jan. 1 accountant Richard Presser of Manalapan to its professional staff.
In 2008, Presser received a Bachelor of Science in business with a concentration in finance from Monmouth University, West Long Branch, graduating magna cum laude. He is expecting to complete a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from Monmouth University in May 2014. At Monmouth University he also served as the accounting department’s graduate assistant.
Before joining The Curchin Group, Presser worked as a bookkeeper for a firm in Deal, served as a tax-aide VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteer for the AARP in Monmouth County and performed work as a financial data analyst and sales assistant in the financial services field.
