Fireworks Slated for Tonight in Celebration of Independence Day

Happy July 4th!
Today we officially celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States of America.

Fireworks have been the traditional way to celebrate the Fourth of July. The tradition stems from a letter John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail on July 3, 1776. He said the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which he wrote should be celebrated on July 2, “ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews [Shows], Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

So grab a hot dog, read the Declaration of Independence to yourself or family, neighbors and friends and watch some firework to celebrate.

Fireworks displays have been scheduled tonight in West Long Branch, Asbury Park, Bradley Beach and Long Branch.
