Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the library, and Monmouth County Library Commission Chair Renee B. Swartz offered their thanks to all the generous library patrons who donated to the Food For Fines drive.

All food donated will go to support the more than 200 charities that the FoodBank serves.

The library’s highly successful Food for Fines program first ran in 2006 as a way to commemorate National Library Week.

“The library’s Food For Fines program began seven years ago as a most useful and active way to commemorate National Library Week,” said Burry, liaison to the library.

In return for a donation of food, the library forgives overdue fines. Two years ago, during just one week, the library collected more than six tons of food items for local food pantries. Last year in conjunction with other Monmouth County departments and as part of National County Government Month, the library expanded its Food for Fines program for the entire month of April. This year the program ran through April again.
