RED BANK – Phoenix Productions is reviving to perform the Broadway hit, “Grease,” for two weekends in July at The Count Basie Theatre.

Phil Mazzara will be starring as Danny, Maggie Bera as Sandy, Ian Laudano as Kenickie and Jennifer Townsend as Rizzo.

“Grease” was created in 1971 in Chicago and is based on the true high school experiences of its co-creator, Jim Jacobs. Just a year later, the production hit Broadway on June 1 and closed in April 1980, after 3,388 performances. Revived over the years with stars such as Sutton Foster and Rosie O’Donnell taking on the classic roles, “Grease” achieved cinematic success with its five Golden Globe nominations and three People’s Choice Awards, including Favorite Musical Motion Picture and Favorite Overall Motion Picture.

Between classes at Rydell High School and trips to the drive-in, drama among the Pink Ladies and the Greasers takes over as two “summer lovers” reconnect at the start of the school year.

Full of the catchy tunes from the stage and film, great dancing and breathtaking scenery, “Grease” is a fun-loving musical romance for everyone.

Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees from July 11–20 at the Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth St.,

Tickets, priced at $20 to $32, can be purchased in person at the Count Basie box office, ordered by phone at 732-842-9000 or ordered online at www.countbasietheatre.org.

Phoenix is a nonprofit community theater organization that has produced more than 100 revivals of hit Broadway musicals over the past two decades.
