TOMS RIVER – The Mater Dei softball team ran out of gas on Saturday as its season came to an end in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinal.
After making an improbable run to the semifinal round as a 15-seed, the Seraphs couldn’t find an answer for Toms River East in a 6-0 loss.
Raiders senior pitcher Jordan Weed finished with 11 strikeouts in the win for Toms River East. Mater Dei senior pitcher Jackie Nash allowed six runs on seven hits in six innings of work. She struck out two batters and hit one.
The win was no. 500 for Toms River East coach Debbie Schwartz.
Mater Dei finished the season at an impressive 24-4. The Seraphs knocked off second-seeded Wall in the Round of 16 and seventh-seeded Howell in the quarterfinal before falling to Toms River East on Saturday.
