MIDDLETOWN – The Mater Dei Prep baseball team finished last season with an 11-13 record and placed second in the B Central Division behind the St. Rose Purple Roses.
The key returning players for the Seraphs this season are senior infielder/pitcher Anthony Stanziale, senior outfielders Danny Poracky and Jerry Trotta, senior outfielder/pitcher Sam Miles, senior second baseman Matt Eckert and junior catcher/outfielder Vincenzo Mezzacappa.
The top newcomers for the Seraphs are senior catcher Tyler LaVine, senior first baseman/pitcher Taylor Hardy, senior third baseman Vinny Smith, junior first baseman/pitcher Liam Olausen, junior infielder Patric Donohue, junior infielder/outfielder Christian Palmer, sophomore catcher/pitcher Joe Ruth and sophomore second baseman Cole Hardy.
Head Coach Pat Riddell feels that the Seraphs toughest competition in the B Central Division this season will come against St. Rose and Keansburg.
“We play a very tough nonconference schedule and got hit hard by graduation,” Riddell said. “We want to focus on winning the B Central Division title.”
The Seraphs will open up their season on Tuesday, April 1, at home against Keyport .
