Middletown Runners Score Team Sweep at Sectionals

TOMS RIVER – Middletown High School North pulled a team sweep Friday, Feb. 7, during the Central Jersey, Group 3 sectional championships.

The boys, led by senior Tom O’Neill who won the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run, took the team title with 69 points. In the 3,200, teammate Justin Lippert finished second to O’Neill to help Middletown North to the title.

In the girls race, the Lions came away with one gold medal in the high jump from Kayla Pfleger at 5-feet as Middletown North won the team standings with 52 points.

The Lions added a second (Maddie Marrone) and third (Alexandra Juzwiak) finish to help bolster its lead.

Middletown High School South’s Brianna Haspel won the 800.
