LINCROFT – The Monmouth Museum is holding two special events on Sunday, Nov. 18, to celebrate the holidays and the newest exhibit in the Becker Children’s Wing.
A reception to mark the annual holiday exhibition, called “A Golden Holiday Celebration” this year, will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The exhibition features trees and trimmings decorated by local garden clubs and the Friends of the Monmouth Museum to celebrate the museum’s 50th Anniversary in 2013. The refurbished train layout will play a prominent role in the holiday festivities.
Those attending will enjoy songs with local musicians Kyle Ward and Taylor Tote, an acoustic duo from Ardvark, and be able to sample sweet treats and join in fun activities.
The reception is free and open to the public.
“A Golden Holiday Celebration” will be on display through Dec. 30 at the Monmouth Museum, which is located at 765 Newman Springs Road on the campus of Brookdale Community College.
The other event for Sunday, Nov. 18, is a grand opening reception from noon to 5 p.m. for “Ancients to Astronauts: How We Communicate” in the children’s wing.
Attendees will be able to explore the theme of communication through four exhibitions featuring hands-on, interactive displays and activities on different subjects. Visitors will explore “Changing Climate: Changing Weather” through multi-sensory, interactive displays; and “Blast Off” in a Friendship 7 capsule in our space exhibition; be transported to Ancient Egypt in a time machine; and make a craft from recycled materials in the popular Green Arts Studio. Special activities include a scavenger hunt and planetarium shows.
“Ancients to Astronauts: How We Communicate” will be on display through August 2014.
Both receptions are free and open to the public.
