Rumson – Congregation B’nai Israel (CBI) has announced that Cantor Dov Goldberg has joined the synagogue as cantor/director of education.

Goldberg comes to CBI from Portland, Maine, where he served as director of congregational learning at Temple Beth El.

The son of a conservative rabbi, Goldberg was born and raised in Rutland, Vermont. He has done undergraduate and doctoral studies in social psychology and Jewish Studies at Rutgers University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary.

“We are so excited to welcome Cantor Goldberg and his family to our CBI family,” said Fran Semaya, president of CBI. “Cantor Goldberg not only has a beautiful voice, he has an incredible knowledge of Judaism and a warm and welcoming personality. With his experience in teaching, we are confident that he will complement our existing team of educators and clergy.”

“Cantor Goldberg will be filling two important roles at the synagogue,” explained Semaya. “As cantor, he will lead the congregation in musical prayer and song, participate in services and life-cycle events and provide pastoral support to our congregants. As director of education, he will guide the congregation in all aspects of Jewish education.”

Throughout his career, Goldberg has taught all ages, from kindergarten through adult, in numerous religious schools, day schools, and adult education programs. Prior to his position in Maine, he served as cantor and educational director for Congregation B’nai Tikvah in North Brunswick.

A lifelong fan of the New York Knicks, Goldberg is living with his wife Danielle Romanoff, originally from Hillsdale, and two dogs in Fair Haven. He has four children, a daughter-in-law and three stepchildren.

Congregation B’nai Israel is located at 171 Ridge Road and has been serving the Jewish community for more than 90 years.
