Drivers along Route 18 will know that they’ve arrived at the exit for Colts Neck, thanks to new signs at Exit 19A. The previous signs listed the towns of Matawan and Point Pleasant, but excluded Colts Neck.
Three years ago the Colts Neck Business Association made new signage – and better visibility for Colts Neck’s business community – a priority. Sal Barbagallo, then vice president of the association, made calls and met with representatives from state and local governing bodies.
After writing letters, making calls and having more meetings, Barbagallo, who served as the association’s president in 2011, found advocates in the Monmouth Country Economic Development office, specifically Amy Fitzgerald who offered her support. “Amy made calls and guided our efforts as we pushed for the signs on Route 18,” says Barbagallo. “She is a true champion for business development in our county.”
In February, new signs were installed on the north and southbound sides of the highway, making Colts Neck and its business community more visible to Garden State drivers.
