Red Bank OEM to Participate In Shore Area CERT Open House

Published on February 17, 2012 with No Comments

RED BANK – Representatives from the Borough’s Office of Emergency Management will be participating in an open house with several surrounding towns to help educate citizens about disaster preparedness and how they can take a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
In the early stages of a disaster, local first responders could be overwhelmed and the need for basic training in disaster survival and rescue skills would improve the ability of community members to survive until responders or other assistance arrives. FEMA recognized the value of Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and made the program available nationwide. By 2003, CERT programs were offered in 45 states. The mayor and council of the Borough of Red Bank recently approved a resolution to authorize the creation of a CERT team which will be coordinated by the Borough’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM).
Red Bank is one of several shore area towns that will be participating in an open house offering more information on the program. Representatives of the Red Bank OEM will join Eatontown, Little Silver, Oceanport, Shrewsbury, Tinton Falls and West Long Branch at the Eatontown Fire House, Broad Street, on Saturday, February 25, between 10 am and 2 pm. All are welcome to stop in any time during the open house to learn more about what they can do to protect themselves, their families and their community and how they can apply to join the Red Bank CERT team. For more information, please contact Red Bank OEM Coordinator Tom Welsh at (732) 530-2777, ext. 496.
