RUMSON – It was little more than a workout for Rumson-Fair Haven Regional’s girls lacrosse team in Monday’s 17-0 rout of Holmdel as the Lady Bulldogs get ready for the second half of the season.

Rumson is 7-2 on the season, but the record is misleading since the two losses were to state power Moorestown and Collegiate, a statewide power from Virginia.

“I’m not surprised with the season,” Rumson coach Amy O’Keefe said. “We lost eight seniors by graduation but the sophomores have stepped up and everyone is working hard.”

Mary Scarrone, who will be playing lacrosse at Davidson next year, led the way with four goals despite sitting out a part of the game. Lindsey Corydon, Kyra Weiner and Jillian Swikart had two goals each.

Other scorers were Maggie Jennings, Bridget Curran, Kiley Pearman, Nicollette Dunphy, Elizabeth Scarrone, Allie Geiger and Madison McGuire.

It took just 25 seconds from the opening faceoff for Jennings to score the first goal, and Corydon and Curran quickly added two more in the next minute for a 3-0 lead.

With 2 minutes left in the first half, Weiner scored her first goal to give Rumson a 10-0 lead, and that put the mercy rule into affect. In lacrosse that means the clock keeps running except for injuries and the final 2 minutes of each half.

Dunphy will be attending Lehigh University while Curran will be playing lacrosse at the University of North Carolina.

Holmdel has won three games this year and coach Regan Teti took an optimistic outlook.

“I think that we can win a few more games,” Teti said. “We have a favorable schedule coming up and the girls played very hard and never gave up. I’m proud of them.

“Rumson has an outstanding girls lacrosse program,” she said. “They have an exceptional youth program and the kids must have had lacrosse sticks in their hands since they were 6 years old.

“However, we have an up and coming program and the community is behind us,” she added.
