  • Friday, Nov. 11 marks the 85th birthday of the Count Basie Theater, a palace of dreams that has seen vaudeville acts, feature films, live performances and grand celebrations over the years. The theater once owned by Walter Reade was known as the Carlton until 1984, when it was rechristened in honor of Red Bank's native son, renowned jazz musician William "The Count"  Basie.
